Places to visit during your stay
We have compiled a short list of sites that may help you to plan your stay or make it more enjoyable. Transport links on the Island are good, although the roads can take some getting used to! Narrow, winding country lanes are the order of the day, so take care when you are driving and enjoy your stay safely.
- Visit Osborne House - Built by Queen Victoria as a family holiday home, this stunning Italianate palace offers a glimpse into the private life of the royal family. Take a peek into the royal nursery, see the bedroom in which Queen Victoria died and marvel at the exotic Indian-inspired Durbar Room. Children will love the Swiss Chalet, where the princes and princesses learnt the skills of household management, while for grown ups there’s the Victorian Walled Garden, now restored to its former glory. With its glorious setting and wonderful views over the Solent, Osborne House fully deserves its place as one of the foremost visitor attractions in the Isle of Wight.
- Visit Amazon World - Amazon World Zoo Park has a huge range of unusual rare and exotic animals. At the last count it was somewhere in the region of 200 different species, spanning the entire animal kingdom!
- Visit Blackgang Chine - Land of Imagination! Also, the Disappearing Village and Robin Hill Country Park.
- Visit the Isle of Wight Museums - The Museum Service collects and preserves items relating to the Island's history, archaeology and geology, and displays a range of these collections through its public museums, currently the Museum of Island History in Newport; Newport Roman Villa; Cowes Maritime Museum and Dinosaur Isle.
- Visit historic Carisbrooke Castle - One of the main tourist attractions in the Isle of Wight, Carisbrooke Castle is best known as the place where King Charles I was imprisoned. You can still play bowls on the very green Charles used. For a castle that has lived through more than 800 years of service, including resisting a siege by the French and seeing off the Spanish Armada, it's also wonderfully well preserved.
- Visit the Isle of Wight Zoo - The Isle of Wight Zoo specialises in the care of tigers and lemurs, but is also home to a variety of other animals. We are dedicated to conserving and protecting animals both at the zoo and in their natural environments. By choosing to visit the zoo you will be helping us look after these amazing animals as well as learning all about them
- Visit Island Breaks - the official site of Isle of Wight Tourism. Find out all about the events taking place during your stay, and details of the amazing places to visit while you are here.
